Matthew Byrne is a Partner in the practice and a born and bred local of Naas, where the firm is proudly based. With nearly two decades of experience, he is widely respected for his strategic insight, strong advocacy skills, and commitment to delivering clear, effective, and client-focused legal representation.
Matthew graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2004 with Hons BA in Business and Law and qualified as a solicitor in 2009. He spent 19 years with Burns Nowlan Solicitors, becoming Partner in 2014 and serving as Managing Partner from 2021 to 2025 overseeing a significant growth and successful period for that firm. He now continues his leadership role in the succeeding practice to Burns Nowlan, upholding its long tradition of professionalism and service to the community.
Matthew’s practice includes criminal defence, civil and commercial litigation, immigration law, employment law, and human rights law. He has represented clients in successful defences before the Central Criminal Court, Circuit Court, and District Court, and has acted in judicial review proceedings overturning convictions and State decisions. His work includes safeguarding the rights of vulnerable clients, reflecting his commitment to justice and fair treatment.
Matthew has also represented thousands of clients in litigation relating to “slopping-out” conditions, seeking compensation for the breach of prisoners’ constitutional rights. He continues to act for these clients as they challenge ongoing State efforts to limit such claims, maintaining his long-standing dedication to ensuring that constitutional rights are vindicated and protected.
Known for his thorough preparation, calm strategic approach, and strong sense of integrity, Matthew is trusted by clients facing complex and often sensitive legal challenges. He remains deeply connected to the Naas community and is committed to ensuring the practice provides high-quality, principled, and forward-looking legal services.
